What Scale is my Tongue Drum?

If you are anything like me, all the paper work associated with your possessions is in a very special spot. Which must be located in another dimension because I can never find that spot again! So it is possible that you have a beautiful Tongue Drum that you love to play but you have no idea what the notes are. Let’s fix that.

Step One

Find an online tuner for your laptop/PC: I like this one at muted.io because it gives you the note and the position of where it is on a keyboard (eg. C4, E5) or on your phone you can use an app like Tuner T1 which is free with ads.

Step Two

Play each note on your drum in any order and write down the letter name of each note. Mute each note with your hand once you are done so it doesn’t “muddy” the results of the next one. This can be a rabbit hole as you may need to find out what note everything in your house resonates at… Definitely have fun with this.

Step Three

Once you have all the letter names of the notes, type them into your preferred search engine and ask, What is the scale that has the following notes….?” If the notes have a sharp (#) or a flat (b), make sure to include that with the note and without a space (C#, Ab).

Boom Kashaka!!! – now you know the scale of your Tongue Drum!

(if you have any questions about this process or need a bit of assistance – feel free to contact us and we will gladly help you through it. 🙂)
